Photo of Cathy Springman, who is the artist of the month at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook.  Her paintings capture the beauty of the north country.  In her own words Cathy indicates that,

“Art has always brought joy into my life.  I am my best self when I am creating. I come from a family of artists and makers.  I was encouraged to engage in creative activities.  As a young adult, I pursued an education in the fine arts.  Life’s responsibilities turned me in other directions for many years.  My artistic abilities were applied to designing gardens, plant styling and merchandising.

Moving to the Northeast Kingdom, retiring and joining the Connecticut River Artisan Group (CRAG) has brought me back to making my art a priority.  Living in such a beautiful area has inspired me to paint landscapes.  Previously that subject did not really interest me.  I especially love the CRAG plein air painting gatherings, outdoors in nature, which have pushed me out of my studio comfort zone.  Once started, my art often takes on a direction and life of its own.  I love taking classes, gathering with fellow artists and learning new techniques.  I feel I am just getting started.”

“Moods of Monadnock” Exhibit”

Pictured is local photographer and artist, Elizabeth (Bette) Guerin who is the Artist of the Month at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook for the month of October. Bette describes her inspiration for the exhibit theme as follows:
“Monadnock Mountain (also called Mount Monadnock) in Lemington, Vermont can be seen almost everywhere from locations around Colebrook. At its highest point, the mountain is 3,148 ft.  I have referred to it as my “weather rock” and have been dazzled by the beauty of the cloud formations and sunsets that I get to witness throughout the year. Since I was a child, I have felt a connection to the natural world through flowers, animals, trees, clouds, stars, sunsets, and sunrises.
The images in this exhibit are some of my favorites over the past couple of years that I have been fortunate enough to capture in that sliver of time before the sky drastically changes. The mountain has set the stage for some very dramatic scenes and a vast variation of clouds and colors. It seems I never tire of looking out each day to see the ever-changing view from the same vantage point. These images may evoke certain moods, but there’s no doubt that Nature is an incredible artist, and if we take the time to look, we are fortunate enough to be its intrigued observer. I hope my work instills a renewed sense of wonder and appreciation of the natural world around us.” The exhibit will be on display until November 6, 2024.
The artist of the month is a collaborative effort of the UCVH and Connecticut River Artisan Group (CRAG).
